Suburban trains on seven routes are operated by Adelaide Metro from Adelaide station to and from Seaford, Flinders, Belair, Grange, Outer Harbor, Port Dock and Gawler Central. Trains on the Seaford, Flinders and Gawler Central lines are run by modern electric trains, whilst those on other lines are run by air-conditioned hybrid diesel railcars. Trains operate regularly throughout the day, seven days per week until about midnight, but are less frequent in the evenings and on weekends.

Adelaide metroCARDs are rechargeable plastic cards that you can use to travel on trains, trams and buses right across Adelaide and suburbs. Metrocard is easy to buy, use and recharge at ticket vending machines and Metrocard agents around Adelaide.

There is a small cost to buy a Metrocard. Your card is then reusable and yours to look after. When you buy your Metrocard you will need to add a starting balance of $5.

When you catch a train, tram or bus, you simply tap your MetroCARD on the yellow machine to validate, and the fare for the trip will be deducted. If you do not have a metroCARD, you can tap your bank card or smart device, or scan your Buy and Go QR code ticket. There is no need to tap off when exiting as all trips are a flat fare.

About us.

Australian Rail Maps is an independent small business. Since 1996 we have published online maps, timetables and journey planners to help visitors, residents, commuters and travellers get the most from Australia's extensive but un-integrated train, tram, bus and ferry networks.

We are not associated with any transport operators and our income comes from advertising on this website. We believe train travel, and public transport generally, has so much potential, and we want to share the possibilites with everyone. Enjoy your travels.
